Winter storm has arrived!

8:00pm update: Moderate sleet continues here at the WREX-TV studios. If the sleet continues for a prolonged period of time, this will cut down the snowfall accumulations. Because a single sleet pellet contains much more water than a single flake of snow, sleet brings a lot of the potential water out of the air. If it's still sleeting at 9pm in Rockford, the snowfall forecast will likely drop to 2-4". In any event, the roadways are extremely icy this evening. Don't venture out unless it is an emergency. -ERIC

The sleet and freezing rain began around 6:00pm here in the Rockford area. It looks like we will have that wintry mix for another few hours before we switch over to snow. Take a look at the radar and the glazed conditions in Rockford now.

Do not travel, unless it is an emergency.

Snow will accumulate 3-6" through noon Monday. -ERIC

if this sleet and freezing rain were to continue, would it cause any outages, or will we be lucky enough to not have outages.
