Update on the Rochelle Weather Station

You may have noticed an absence on our temperature report for the past few weeks. It seems the Rochelle AWOS site has decided to go on a holiday break! I got word from the Paulin's of Rochelle today. They heard it took a direct hit from lightning a few weeks ago! I called the National Weather Service in Romeoville this afternoon and they agreed that it was indeed off-line, but couldn't confirm the lightning strike. In any event, they are waiting on parts so it can be fixed. There's no telling when it will be back...but it will likely take a week or two. Side note: The AWOS station in Rochelle is maintained by the FAA, not the National Weather Service. -ERIC
