Icing Threat Tonight

It's amazing to watch the radars downstate and into Missouri this afternoon. Areas of rain are widespread with surface temperatures below 32°...creating a thick glaze of ice.

Watch out if you're traveling tonight...especially in the areas shaded in purple. Within the Ice Storm Warning, up to 1/2 inch of ice could accumulate tonight.

Our precip will be quite light, but it doesn't take a lot to cause problems.

Another thing! The models haven't picked up on this precip field very well at all! So, we'll just play things by ear for the next few hours keeping in mind the heaviest precip will remain south. Updates shortly. -ERIC

Why isn't the western portion of northern Illinois icluded in the warnings? It looks like we should be with all of wisconsin included...Just wondering.

thats because, stephenson, jo daviess and whiteside and carrol counties are run by the quad cities NWS office. winnebago points east is in the chicago NWS portion.
