Day #3

Today we're talking about lightning safety. Did you know that on average 66 people are killed by lightning in the United States each year? In most cases these deaths are preventable.

People struck by lightning suffer from a variety of long-term, debilitating symptoms, including memory loss, attention deficits, sleep disorders, numbness, dizziness, stiffness in joints, irritability, fatigue, weakness, muscle spasms, depression, and an inability to sit for long. Lightning is a serious danger!

Use the 30/30 rule before you head out. When you see lightning, count the time until you hear its thunder. If this time is 30 seconds or less, lightning is already a threat and you should be inside. Wait 30 minutes or more after hearing the last thunder before going outside! To learn more about lightning safety, click here.
