First active storm day of the spring season

There were 129 reports of severe weather in the upper Midwest on Wednesday with a few of those coming out of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

There were even a few night-time tornadoes reported in northern Missouri and southern Iowa.

Luckily the storms weakened as they moved into the Rockford metro around 3am this morning. There was still plenty of torrential rainfall. Some areas saw 24 hour totals over 3 inches!

We had some decent storms... but nothing worth a warning.

And this is off topic, but does anybody know where there is a good lightning map in motion? thanks

justin, that wunderground.com NEXRAD radar that Eric posted (several posts earlier) on this Blog is one of my favorites.

Navigate to that site, pick your favorite radar installation to view and then look at the various radar options you can pick to view.

There is an option marked "experimental" to view lightning strikes. My impression is that its not too great, but its more interesting than nothing.

In general my impression is that this is one of the better (free) weather radar sites available to the public.
