As April comes to an end, it's going to be time to start fertilizing the lawn. The beginning and the end of the growing season are the two most important times to fertilize the lawn. It's recommended that you mow your lawn recently before you apply fertilizer. The shorter blades allow the fertilizer granules to move down to the soil more efficiently. Now as for fertilizers, there are many different types. It's important to chose the right one for your lawn type. This is where talking to people at the garden center becomes important. Usually the lawn fertilizers that are "slow release" in nature are the best because the nutrients are released over time instead of all at the same time. This helps to prevent from over-fertilizing. Another good tip is if you are using a spreader to fill it over a drive-way or side-walk to avoid any accumulation of spillage because it can burn the lawn.
