Last weekend brought 80° temperatures to much of Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. After spending nearly all hours of Thursday in the 40s, temperatures will once again rebound. A warm dome of high pressure continues to build across the Rockies. In this visible satellite image, you can see the pesky area of low pressure that has been present over the eastern half of the US for the better part of this week. You can also see a small "shortwave" of low pressure spinning through Nebraska and Kansas. This feature will continue diving into the lower Mississippi River valley tonight and tomorrow.
Temperatures are expected to surge above 70° for Saturday with some areas peaking above 80° for Sunday. Some middle 80s are possible on Monday before our atmosphere begins a slow cool-down (actually back to average) for the middle of next week.
