Thunderstorms rumbled through parts of northern Illinois earlier this afternoon. A few of the storms produced wind damage across parts of Winnebago and Boone counties. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and even penny sized hail accompanied these storms. In Rockton and South Beloit, winds knocked down trees and power lines, and in Poplar Grove wind gusts blew down a tree on Poplar Grove Rd just north of Rt. 173.
With the lack of rainfall we have seen over the past 8 days, some of the weaker trees and branches may not be as strong due to the lack of moisture in them. Scattered storms are still possible overnight and again into Sunday.

in loves park here, we had heavy rain, and some gusty winds, i dont think there was any hail that i could see. but it was enough to be noticed, it lasted maybe about 10-15 mins.
was the wind estimated to be high enough to be considered severe? i'm glad the NWS was on top of that one.
But i didnt even know what was going on... i was just outside then all of a sudden it was pouring and extremely windy.
The winds that knocked down trees and power lines in South Beloit must have been very local. I live in Beloit, just the other side of the state line, 4 blocks from South Beloit, and at my house we had nary a breeze nor a raindrop.
