The first part of June has proven to be a wet one for us. We have seen over two and a half inches of rain...putting us a little over an inch of where we should be for the month of June. This upcoming week is going to be a dry...and while that may not be a bad thing here, there are certain parts of the U.S. that are in serious need of rain! Drought covers more than one third of the U.S., effecting parts of the southeast, southwest, and even northern Minnesota. Even though parts of the southeast saw rain from Tropical Storm Barry, it wasn't enough. They are still about 50 inches short! According to the National Climatic Data Center, this has been the driest spring in the southeast since record keeping began back in 1895! Ponds and lakes have been drying from the west to east coast. In parts of California farmers are either selling their cattle or taking them out of the state as the grass continues to dry up. And unfortunately the weather pattern that we're going to be in won't allow for much rain in parts where they need it the most.
