A Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch is in effect for all of the 13News viewing area until midnight tonight. A tornadic thunderstorm is now in Iowa County, IA, around the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids areas. This broken line of storms will continue northeast and will near our western counties by 4:00pm. Storms may contain brief, but strong tornadoes mainly before dark and mainly west of the Rockford area.

Storms will form a squall line after sunset as severe winds could develop. -ERIC

P.S. We will begin our extensive coverage on the blog within the next hour.

I read this on the Storm Predicition Center's MD discussion.. "THE ATMOSPHERE APPEARS TO STILL BE CAPPED TO SURFACE BASED STORMS OVER ERN WI AND STORMS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING OVER NERN WI APPEAR ELEVATED ABOVE THE CAP." What does it mean to have storms elevated above the cap? And as always..keep up the awesome work!!

moderate risk of tornadoes...conditions will deteriorate this evening.

The cap is broken...and storms are expected to develop and accelerate through evening.

Highest threat continues to be straight line winds...not tornadoes. Keep that in mind. -ERIC

How come on the weather channel they are talking we could get tornadoes? because we are in the partically dangerous tornado watch? Just curious i always notice that their forcast or predictions are alot different than any of the local. I know most of the time you guys are more accurate than the weather channel.

well u have to figure that the weather channel has to focus on all parts of the country, not just us. that's what I rely on 13 news for that the weather channel. Eric, adam and candy, keep up the good work. I have to be at our bingo hall tonight, so if anything does hit, I'm not sure if I will be able to watch the storms blow thru. If i can, i will report damaage which god forbid I hope that doesn't happen.

People, just pay attention to the special weather bulletions and be ready to seek shelter when a warning is issued. PDS Tornado Watch means that any storms that move into the watch area has the capability of rotating and producing strong tornadoes along with damaging winds, large hail, cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain. Yes, this is a particulary dangerous situation if these storms should move into your area.
