6:39pm - Okay, they just canceled the watch. Severe weather threat: gone. (I'm going to get some dinner now...stomach's been growling all afternoon):-) -ERIC
6:38pm - Severe Storm Watch continues for Boone, Winnebago, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb (although I don't know why...I do not anticipate any severe weather this evening...or in the next six days for that matter). -ERIC
5:20pm - Storms continue to fire right along the front...but are very weak. While our environment remains fairly juiced (dewpoint at this hour in Rockford is 71°) the unstable air of early afternoon has passed. We'll hold onto a few storms through 7:30pm, but additional severe weather is not anticipated. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch should be discontinued in the next few hours. -ERIC
4:25pm - LOT expires Severe Thunderstorm Warning for De Kalb, Kane [IL]
4:21pm - Initial line of storms continues toward the Chicagoland area. While the front still lies out to the west, the first line of storms has stabilized the atmosphere somewhat. While there are a few towering cumulus along the front, severe weather is not likely with this line. Once the secondary line of storms moves through the area, we're done with the rain until Thursday.4:00pm - LOT issues Flash Flood Warning (FFW) for De Kalb [IL] till 7:45 PM CDT
3:34pm - LOT issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning for De Kalb, Kane [IL] till 4:30 PM CDT
3:21pm - Moline, Illinois clocked a 66mph wind gust at 3:12pm with the squall line!
3:09pm - DVN cancels Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Carroll, Stephenson, Whiteside [IL]
3:00pm - Storms progressing through the Rockford metro at 3pm. Gusty winds and brief torrential rain can be expected east of I-39 within the next hour or two. Storms are more impressive in Ogle County. This cluster will affect the (already inundated sections of) DeKalb County by 3:30pm.The cold front itself is still out in Jo Daviess County. A few additional storms can be expected in our metro by 6-7pm tonight. -ERIC

once again, eric and candy and adam, you all rock with this blog keeping us up to date with the weather. from what i have seen with the radar on the weather channel,it seemed like the line was impressive, then when it got to us, it thinned out then blew up again after it passed rockford. if we get anything else here, ill let u know.
We definatley had some hard rain and wind aroun3:30 in DeKalb. Now at 4:03 there is still a lot of lightning and thunder, not much rain. Will a new storm come in or is this it?
I can't find the info I need from weather.com so I appreciate your frequent updates.
Power out for about an hour here in east Rockford...just as I found the flashlights and matches it came back on :) Keep up the good work!
Should we still expect another round of storms at about 6-7p?
Just went into Rockford from Belvidere (and back) and the Showplace lights as well as the Interstate lights were all out. No police were there, it was a bit of a mess.
Glad to hear that the Watch has been canceled and that the rain event is over for a few days..I just checked my NOOA Weather Radio (that my husband bought me for my birthday this month) and it is still showing that there is a watch and it is not showing the advisory...It must take time for it to clear out of there. Keep up the great work!...I really enjoy the blog.
yep, the initial line that came thru about 3 or so, i had a brief but heavy downpour and yet my gauge barely has anything in it. looks like the one lone storm around 6 went thru the northern part of the county. i could see the cloud from walmart. looks like we missed another good rain. oh well. maybe next time
