BULLETIN: It was really really hot 71 Years Ago

Saturday marks the 71st anniversary of the hottest temperature in Rockford history. On July 14, 1936 thermometers rose to an astonishing 112°F! What's even more amazing is the fact that it was over 100° for eight consecutive days before that day!

We've hit 100° 89 times since recordkeeping began in 1896. What's interesting is our last 100° temperature was way back in 1989. If we hit the century mark this summer it will be 18 years in the making.

Just in case you're wondering, July 18th is statistically the hottest day in Rockford, Illinois.

Enjoy the low 80s this weekend! It could be worse. Err, it should be worse this time of year. -ERIC
