Several clusters of showers and thunderstorms moved across the Stateline this morning producing as much as 0.81" of rain in Freeport. The radar scan is of the latest activity at 8:30am. You can see the brunt of the wet weather has pushed through Winnebago County and continues to move off towards the southeast at 25 miles per hour.
By no means are we in the clear yet. There is plenty of moisture still in the atmosphere to fuel more thunderstorms. The reason we will continue to see thunderstorms redevelop is because the battlefield has setup directly overhead. We have warm air over Illinois clashing with relatively cooler air over Wisconsin. When these two airmasses converge at the surface they have nowhere to go but up. This rising air causes clouds to billow and thunderstorms to develop. This setup will linger overhead into Thursday night, which means wet weather will be frequent over the next three days. -ADAM

Do you think there might be some pretty decent storms today that could have strong winds and hail?
Power is back on in Belvidere, it was out for almost two hours. This will be an interesting week, to say the least.
Well it looks like we are in the slight for today but i don't know if that means for severe weather...The sun is out now and boy is it humid out..Not hot just humid, so i think maybe we could have some good storms but hey i'm not a weather person lol...
Southern Minnesota and northern Iowa are receiving full sunshine right now and are heating up pretty quickly. This will be the area that we watch for thunderstorm initiation this afternoon. The main severe weather threat will be in the initiation area west of the Mississippi River. Gusty winds and small hail cannot be ruled out for us, but my main concern at this point will be frequent lightning strikes and heavy rainfall.
As is fairly typical with rainfall totals, our rain gauges can vary significantly. This morning's rain gave Monroe, WI .03", while Freeport (just to the south) received .82". Expect rainfall totals for the rest of today and into Wednesday to range from half an inch to over two inches.
