8:00pm - 4 N Mount Carroll [Carroll Co, IL] law enforcement reports FLASH FLOOD at 07:32 PM CDT -- gravel and dirt washed onto route 78 near blue mountain road.

6:54pm - 1.50"/hour rains over Lake Carroll in Carroll County. Watch for flooding!

6:42pm - Flood Advisory (FLS) for Ogle [IL] till 8:15 PM CDT

6:34pm - Flash Flood Warning (FFW) for Carroll, Whiteside [IL] till 12:15 AM CDT

6:01pm - River Flood Warning valid at Jul 09, 10:13 PM CDT for the Kishwaukee River at De Kalb [IL] till Jul 11, 3:00 AM CDT

5:48pm - New Severe Thunderstorm Warning for De Kalb, Kane [IL] till 6:45 PM CDT

5:48pm - Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Boone, Lake, McHenry, Winnebago Co. CANCELLED

5:47pm - Flooding continues to be a major threat for this evening for Eastern McHenry County, Central DeKalb County, and Eastern Lee County. Some areas have received over 4 inches of rainfall within a few hours time. Portions of the Northern Illinois University campus have been flooded with an unconfirmed report of 4 feet of standing water. Water levels should begin to recede shortly but creeks and rivers will continue rising through the night.

5:44pm - Flash Flood Warning (FFW) for Lee [IL] till 10:00 PM CDT

5:17pm - Reports of 3.50" of rainfall in 80 minutes time over DeKalb. With an additional 1-2 inches of rainfall anticipated, this could be a disasterous situation. Please stay away from low-lying areas as a major flood event is possible. DO NOT TRAVEL INTO OR AROUND DEKALB UNTIL THE WATER SUBSIDES.

De Kalb [De Kalb Co, IL] law enforcement reports FLASH FLOOD at 04:41 PM CDT -- cars stalling in deep water - unofficial reports of 4 feet of standing water

4:50pm - Viewer report from Byron of 1.50" of rainfall within the past 30 minutes. Penny sized hail.

4:26pm - Live Doppler Radar shows a cluster of developing storms over Southern Winnebago County and Northern Ogle County. Pea sized hail, along with torrential rain is likely with this cluster.

3:56pm - De Kalb [De Kalb Co, IL] co-op observer reports HAIL of penny size (M0.75 INCH) at 03:49 PM CDT -- three quarter inch hail measured in dekalb

3:28pm - From the National Weather Service "
sirens in Belvidere were sounded based on an officer seeing a funnel cloud, it quickly disappeared". While there may have been a funnel cloud near the city, there remains no threat of a tornado at this time.

3:10pm - We received a phone call within the past 15 minutes concerning the tornado sirens being sounded in Belvidere. I called the Belvidere Police Dept. and they confirmed the warning had sounded. I then called the National Weather Service office in Chicago and they had nothing concerning a possible tornado sighting. 13News is working on this story...but I reiterate, there is no threat of a tornado over Boone County. -ERIC

2:34pm - Storms continue to develop around the Rockford metro. Storms may contain severe hail and damaging winds through 6:30pm when the front is expected to move through the city. Areas south and east of the metro may experience strong to severe storms until 8:00pm.

2:18pm - Storm Prediction Center issues SEVERE TSTM watch till 01:00 UTC (Watch Quickview)

2:14pm - Severe Thunderstorm Warning for McHenry [IL] till 3:15 PM CDT

Williams Bay [Walworth Co, WI] trained spotter reports HAIL of quarter size (E1.00 INCH) at 02:05 PM CDT -- reported on highway 50 between delavan and lake geneva. hail was falling for the past 20 minutes.

2:05pm - Storms are developing along a cold front from near Lake Geneva, to Harvard, and down to Belvidere. Some storms could contain pea to marble sized hail and gusty winds to 60mph. Trees have been downed in parts of Walworth County within the past 30 minutes. Severe Storm Warning continues for Walworth County until 2:45pm. -ERIC

can these storms be very severe? which counties are most likely to see severe thunderstorms?

South and east of Rockford. The front will reach the metro within the next few hours. Hail and high winds will be the threat until that time. -ERIC

Belvidere Tornado sirens started right around 3:00pm...but the weather station isn't reporting anything!

i'm in machesney park, and have counted six raindrops so far. from the looks of radar, the rain is now south & east of here, but i have a friend on harrison ave in Rockford, and it poured for about a half hr there.

i am in loves park and we have had nothing. looks like most of us have dodged another bullet. especially when we need the rain. it didnt even rain at walmart on owens center today. looks like the storms formed all around us, but yet we got missed. unreal.
