Tornadic Storms in Iowa

A lot of times we talk about "tornadoes indicated on doppler radar." The image to the left was taken at 7pm tonight and shows a radar couplet...or strong rotation southwest of the Quad Cities. Colors in green and blue indicate winds blowing toward the radar (just north of Davenport). The yellows and reds show air moving away from the radar site.

When you see these colors close together, it is a sign of rotation. For that reason, the NWS in the Quad Cities has issued a Tornado Warning for the affected locations in SE Iowa.

Aside from these storms in Iowa, not much is happening in our region. A higher level of moisture and shear resides in the Hawkeye State tonight. We're still not out of harm's way as severe weather will be possible late tonight. -ERIC
