Dry Skies Ending

Today we will be sitting under dry skies and this will make for the ninth consecutive day with the rain bucket staying empty. This stretch of dry weather is thanks in part to a large dome of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. This 'high' has acted like a shield protecting us from the stormy weather. It has set up a fence keeping us sheltered from the stormy weather over the southern tier of the United States and from the stormy weather over southern Canada.

The streak of dry days will probably come to an end when this shield breaks down. The blocking high pressure will slide to the east and this will allow a large influx of moisture off of the Gulf of Mexico. This coupled with a trigger mechanism (a cool front) will cause scattered showers and storms to develop on Thursday and Friday.

For all you severe weather junkies out there, this rainmaker isn't expected to produce much in the way of dangerous weather. The showers will likely be more of the garden variety. Eric and I have been battling when this rainmaker will push through the past two days. I foresee the wet weather ending by sunrise Saturday, while Eric is allowing the showers to linger into the daytime hours Saturday. I'm hoping we can squeeze in a mostly dry weekend! -ADAM
