Tornado Watches are in effect north and east of the Rockford metro. Looking at the visible satellite photographs you can clearly see the towering thunderstorms that are developing in Southeastern Wisconsin. A few towers are noted in far NW Indiana as well. This has prompted the issuance of the new Tornado Watch for the IL/IN stateline. The storm development zone is highlighted in green. Storm motion will be to the northeast at 50mph.Yesterday I forecasted the potential for severe between noon and five...we're quickly coming up to the end of that. We should be able to give the all-clear here in the next hour. -ERIC

Is the end of the severe weather threat for the whole viewing area? I live basically right on the IL/WI border --given the severe weather boxes for SE Wisconsin, would I still need to be on the lookout for severe weather?
I'm only three miles from Rock County here in Northern Winnebago County. Are we safe to assume the threat is over now for severe weather?

is Rockford all clear 4 tonight?
so what happened that rockford and the rest of the area didn't get a drop of rain today. seems that our area is a spot where major severe weather doesn't want to happen. it happens all around but rockford is like a bubble where everything misses.
From what I can tell is the front outran the upper-level disturbance. Going through numerous satellite and radar loops, you can clearly see how the U.L. disturbance rotated through Central Iowa during the afternoon. Around 4pm the upper level disturbance caught up with the cold front about 30 miles east of Rockford, igniting the severe weather in Chicago around 5pm.
We really were in a great place. There was A LOT of wind shear in the atmosphere today. Rockford missed out on the weather...but in a good way today!
