Tornado threat for Eastern Iowa this evening

9:45pm - Storms are quickly falling apart. Aside from wind gusts to 55mph, severe weather is no longer anticipated in the region.

6:50pm - Tornado Warnings are in effect for the Iowa City area until 7:45pm. Storms are moving northeast, but at their current speed they won't move across the Mississippi River before 8:30.

6:15pm - Tornado Watch may be issued...While our atmosphere will be stabilizing after sunset, a few strong storms (capable of producing tornadoes) may be possible before 10pm. The Storm Prediction Center may issue a Tornado Watch for Eastern Iowa (part of which may include far NW Illinois). Stay tuned to WREX and the 13News Weather Blog for the latest!

Why did they not issue like a high wind advisory, the wind out in the country is really blowing bad in this storm, thinking the power may go out tonight

Well, a few miles to your north the Milwaukee office of NWS says (sbout the stateline area):

SUSTAINED WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE TO BETWEEN 25 AND 40
MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH THIS EVENING ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF
SOUTHERN WISCONSIN. USE EXTRA CAUTION WHILE OUTDOORS THIS EVENING.
SECURE LOOSE ITEMS IN THE YARD SUCH AS GARBAGE CANS. IF DRIVING A
HIGH PROFILE VEHICLE...USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN DRIVING ON EAST-
WEST ROADWAYS.

My guess is you'd be pretty safe applying that thought to the Northern IL counties that hug the stateline too.
