Latest on Thursday Afternoon's Severe Weather Threat
After a soggy night with general rain showers, we are under dry skies right now. A dry slot or chunk of dry air has moved in overhead and this has caused the cloud cover to thin out a bit. This added sunshine should add heat to the air near the surface and destabilize the atmosphere to promote thunderstorm growth this afternoon. Our severe weather risk across the Stateline has been dropped into the "slight" category, but this does not mean we are in the clear by any means. In my opinion, we should have always been in the "slight" category anyway. The ingredients are still in place... lots of moisture, lifting mechanism, daytime heating, etc. If any severe thunderstorms develop, they will pop up directly overhead which means we won't have a lot of lead time to prepare for these storms. I expect the area of initialization for these storms to be in a line parallel and close to Interstate 39. -ADAM
