Storm track: Key to forecasting winter weather
Here's a little refresher course on winter storm tracks. When low pressure tracks west of us, 99% of the time we see only rainfall.
When low pressure dips into the Southern Plains on a track from Oklahoma City to Little Rock and then up to Chicago, we stay on the cool side but see overrunning rain. This is a perfect storm track to give us freezing rain and ice.
Finally, if you want to see snow in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin watch for a low pressure system that tracks from Dallas to Memphis to Indianapolis.
