I wish it was, but this is no joke. These are the unofficial low temperatures from last night. With calm winds and clear skies our low dove down to -16° in Rockford. This reading now makes this morning the coldest morning thus far this winter. We haven't seen the mercury dip this low in over 7 years! You have to go back to Christmas Day of 2000. Do you remember opening up presents that morning?Recently, I had a friend describe the conditions outside, but I can't write it here. Probably because the FCC would be all over me for typing such foul language. Despite the frigid morning a record was not broken. The temperature of -20° in 1936 still stands. -ADAM

Why was it so much colder in Illinois than in Wisconsin?
It seems that everyone was below zero last night, but why was there such a difference between such cities as Dixon at (-24) and Dekalb (-9) when they are not really that far apart?
weather buff: The center of the ridge was over Illinois this morning. Parts of Wisconsin saw west and southwesterly winds and were warmer.
Carrie: The cold weather settles in low spots. The DeKalb-Taylor Airport is on the top of a ridge while places like Aurora, Rochelle, and Dixon are in lower areas. -ERIC
