Monday's Midwest Weather

For the Midwest today...the weather picture looks a little something like this from AccuWeather:

Illinois will remain in the clear and away from the brutally cold temps and blizzard like conditions that are forming in Canada and Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

The low pressure system separates us from the cold..but that low pressure will move up to the north and east.

Even though a blizzard is not in the forecast for us (thank goodness!) we will feel the effect of that system on Wednesday with a temperature drop to only 19 degrees.

For today though winds and mild temperatures from Kansas city and Omaha will bring temps up to the mid 40's across the stateline. It looks to be a washout for the entire state of Wisconsin today and much of Central and Northern Illinois look to get a good dose of rain as well.

NWS in Milwaukee is saying that the stateline area north of the WI/IL border still might get a blizzard warning for Tuesday night - right now they just have it as a winter storm warning, but whatever you call it, it sounds nasty.

Here is NWS's cheery statement re. the coming storm for southern WI:

HERE IS A HIGH WIND WATCH AND A WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR
SOUTHERN WISCONSIN TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY NIGHT. THERE IS A
WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TUESDAY TO NOON WEDNESDAY.

A STRONG ARCTIC FRONT WITH NORTHWEST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH AND GUSTS
TO 55 MPH WILL BRING RAPIDLY FALLING TEMPERATURES AND A RETURN OF
DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY
MORNING. SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL ACCOMPANY THE ARCTIC FRONT
TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES AND
THERE IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH EVENING. NEAR BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ESPECIALLY TUESDAY EVENING...SEVERELY
REDUCING VISIBILITIES AND MAKING TRAVEL VERY DIFFICULT. WIND CHILLS
WILL FALL BETWEEN 25 BELOW TO 34 BELOW ZERO FROM TUESDAY NIGHT AND
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING AS AIR TEMPERATURES DROP INTO THE SINGLE
DIGITS AND TEENS BELOW ZERO.

Ugh!

Well from what I read on the NWS website, the storm for thursday into friday sounds like we will get about 1-2 inches, with chicago getting up to 6 or more inches. Well at least it says that the heavy snow band would be from streator to chicago and points southeast and rockford will get very little if any. That would be our luck. And so far, no wind headlines.
