FREEPORT - Stephenson County will be recognized tonight for earning the distinction of being "StormReady," a designation given to communities that are well prepared to respond to severe weather events. "It's something that says your community is committed to going above and beyond to keep people safe," said Donna Dubberke, a warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service. "You can't prevent the weather, but you can prepare for it."
StormReady is a nationwide program run by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service. It is designed to help communities develop plans to handle local severe weather threats. Click here for the complete story.
