Major Winter Storm in the Works

5:00pm - Here is the 13News Snowfall Forecast for the event which will begin 24 hours from now. 8-13 inches of snowfall are forecast for all of Northern Illinois (including the Rockford metro) with 6-12 inches into Southern Wisconsin. Models are averaging around 1.00" of liquid accumulation. We can use a 12-14:1 ratio of snow-to-liquid which yields a potential of more than a foot of snow. Certainly, once we factor in drifting, the situation could be ominous. One word of caution: we have another 24 hours to watch this storm, but the potential is there for a major winter storm...if not a blizzard. -ES

Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for all of Southern Wisconsin (including Green, Rock, and Walworth Co.)

Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Northern Illinois. (Weather Service offices holding off on a warning as this may be a scenario which needs either a "Winter Storm Warning" or "Blizzard Warning.")

Dense Fog Advisories continue overnight for Northern Illinois for visibilities below 1/2 mile. Only light rain or drizzle expected. Temperatures will remain above 32°.

Light rain will switch to snow during the late-afternoon hours of Tuesday with an hour of freezing rain/sleet possible during the changeover period. Snow will intensify during the evening and overnight. Some thunder will be possible, especially south of Rockford during the snow event. Winds will gust above 30mph during the early morning hours of Wednesday causing potential white-out conditions. Snowfall totals will range from 6 inches (far northwest) to 12-14 inches along and immediatetly south of US20. This includes the Rockford metro area.

All I can say is, if that pans out, WOW. That is impressive. Maybe thats why the NWS hasn't updated anything. I trust 13 news, because I know eric was saying last week we could have major storm tomorrow and so far it is panning out. That will be incredible if it happens.

11.5 - 13.5? lol

When I saw the news I couldn't believe it. I switched to 23 and Mark pretty much had the same forecast.

This will be interesting to see if this does pan out. Because it seems alot of times when we have a potential for major storms, they fizzle out or don't get as bad. But eric, like you said, this is still 24 hours away. But I have told people even with the snows we have had, I have a feeling we will still get the mother of all snows before this winter is over. Thank goodness I get off at 4 tomorrow afternoon and don't work again til 4 on wednesday afternoon. Keep us up to date eric. You rock.z

Hey justin, just a word of caution, try not post what other stations are saying. Eric has asked me to just stick with what he and adam and gretchen are forecasting on this blog. And I trust them more than anyone.

Tony,dont post so many comments!

Why not, I sometimes see people post quite a few comments. Eric, do u think I should cool down on the posts, or just post as I please.

Well normally I wouldn't talk about other forecasts, but I thought I would point out there's some consistancies (sp?), so it looks like this could get pretty nasty. And its not bad that you have a lot to say, but you say it in too many comments. You have a lot of double posts a few minutes apart, where you could probably just fit it all in one post. It doesn't bother me too much, but some people might have a problem with it getting cluttered with tony comments.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. I think what it is, I post a comment, then like right after I post it, I think of something else and I can't go back and edit the post to add on what I wanted to say. I do realize I do post alot of them. I wish there was just an edit button, or actually I could just delete my comment and just add a different one with what I say. I think I am going to delete my comment asking if loves park will fall in the 12-14 inch range, since it has been answered.

Thank You Tony, and justin for helping him understand, when i log on, and i see 6 or 7 comments, i am thinking that eric might have posted some new model info, or something like that, so thats why i like people to cool it on the comments
