Flooding Concerns

Flooding was definitely a problem this weekend, which is why FLOOD WARNINGS were issued for the majority of the viewing area. These warnings will continue through 1pm this afternoon. The majority of the precipitation has ended. There is still one last batch of snow rotating through Wisconsin at this time. It should clip us and add some flurries to the air for your morning commute.

The reasons for the flooding include frozen ground, a large melting snowpack, and over an inch of rain that fell across the majority of the region. The 1.15" of liquid precipitation that was recorded Sunday at the Rockford Airport shattered the previous record of 0.69" back in 1911. Many drainage ditches and culverts are either full or clogged, which is creating some flooded roadways across several urban roadways. The flooding concerns should subside temporarily with our temperatures below the freezing mark all day long, and a lack of additional precipitation. -ADAM
