Frigid, then snowy?

10:30pm - An update on the snowy GFS model. It's not quite as robust with snowfall, but it still appears that accumulating snow is still likely for areas of downstate Illinois. Should it track farther north, we will begin talking about accumulations. Right now it may only bring us more nuisance snow. More on Tuesday. Have a good night. -ES

Previous post - Wind Chill Advisories are in effect tonight for all of Northern Illinois. Chills will exceed -20 for a few hours tonight as the temperature dips below zero. A record cold high temperature is anticipated for Wednesday with a record cold low temperature expected for Thursday morning.

After that, the GFS weather model is spinning up a pretty major snowmaker which could have implications on our forecast. This scenario just sprang up on this morning's model run so I'm hesitant to put up the red flags. Should it be on the evening run (which comes out right at 10pm) there may be a better chance of it coming to fruition...and shoveling occur. Once we get some consistency, we can begin to guess on some snow amounts. Stay tuned! -ES

I'm not facing that direction. Plus, I can't see anything anyway because of my hat, scarf, and hood.

Make it go away.

Y'know ... the worst part about it is that it just keeps going on and On and ON and ON...

My favorite local store had flower and vegetable seeds featured prominantly at the checkout counter this weekend.

Instead of thinking about how tired I am of winter I think I'm going to start focusing on how much I'm going to appreciate Spring!

Who wants to make a bet? 4:1 odds we go straight from winter to summer.

If I remember right, we went from Summer straight to Winter last year, so anything's possible. It doesn't seem right picking out pumpkins in shorts and a tank top with sweat drippin' off ya! That's just all kinds of wrong. . . .

Well based on erics 10pm newscast, sounds like thursday may be just flurries and nothing more. Eric, do you think there is any chance we will break the record of 78-79 or is that looking slim now since we are close to march.
