Preview of Next Week's Storm

Since it is Friday, I'm sure you don't want to start talking about the next work week already, but that is when our next storm system strikes. Sunshine will be consistent sight through this weekend, but by Monday a vigorous area of low pressure slides into western Iowa. Southerly winds will bring in warmer air that should boost our temperatures into the 40s, but it will also usher in quite a bit of moisture off the Gulf of Mexico. It appears as though our precipitation should start off in the liquid form Monday afternoon. The pressure gradient is going to be tight with this Low, meaning the winds turn gusty by Monday night wrapping in much colder air. During the overnight hours we should accumulate a little bit of snow, and a few flakes probably will continue to fly into your Tuesday.

As always, most folks are wondering how much snow we could receive from this system. The models are cranking out the potential for several inches. Although, thinking back through this winter most of the storms that began as rain typically didn't produce hefty snowfall totals. At this point I would be on standby for enough snow to shovel. The bigger problem should be the blowing snow on the backside of this storm for your Tuesday morning commute.

In the meantime, soak up the sun this weekend! -ADAM

I can't help but shake my head and laugh b/c I'm excited about mid-30 temperatures and sun this weekend! I just hope these temps and sun melt the ice chunks away. . .

Have a nice sunny weekend everyone!

Previewing next weeks storm? Eric said tonight that we may "expect a few inches" and his blog says to have your shovels ready. Really Eric? Weather.com and NOAA.org are calling for just a half inch.

My previous email was slammed by my fellow weather watchers and then deleted from your website (so much for that first ammendment) when all i asked for is a little honesty.

Here's a chance, next tuesdays storm. just be honest, don't try to up your viewership, just give us the true forecast. who can argue with that?

Shut up. You're stupid

Adam Sorenson: First of all, thanks for watching! You bring up a few good points but I know for a fact that NOAA.gov (The National Weather Service) doesn't forecast snowfall amounts until 48 hours before the event.

Second, when you're not making sense...you're going to get deleted. That's plain and simple. Trust me, I've deleted plenty of "Green Bay Justin's" comments. (Just kiddin man!) :-D

If you want to consult us on how to do weather, feel free to give us a call at 815-335-2213 or keep posting.

Thanks!

Adam: One other thing?

You spelled my last name wrong. Please sign in with the correct spelling, then comment. :)

For this person that thinks they know everything. I was just looking at Noaa.gov and they are saying a possiblity of several inches, to early to tell, and depends on which way the storm tracks. If it moves further south we could have alot more snow because the precip will come in snow instead of the rain/snow they are forcasting. Even with the rain/snow they are saying there is a slight chance basically that we could see several inches. I have looked at all the hazardous weather discussion they have had and none of them say a half an inch. They say a half an inch for the central part of illinois. So check your information before being an idiot and posting stuff that is false.

One more thing, could this adam person be the one that called the station and complained because the NIU stuff was being broadcasted and the weather wasn't being discussed? That just struck me as wondering if this person decides to come in here and mess around now?

Haha I've had a couple deleted. But some people just really get on my nerves. You don't just go and blame forecasters for saying there's storm potential to boost ratings. If it was the exact opposite, and 2 inches was forecasted and we got 8, he would accuse the weather team of making it sound like less on purpose. Sometimes weather doesn't come out as forecasted, and thats just the way it is. It happens everywhere. If you think the forecasts are wrong on purpse, just go watch the weather channel. Its better for us to know the worst case scenario so we can prepare.

I know we aren't supposed to compare with other forecasts, but since "adam" insists NOAA is calling for a half inch ...

ASSOCIATED PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO START OUT AS RAIN
MONDAY...CHANGING OVER TO SNOW MONDAY NIGHT...WITH SNOW CONTINUING
THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY TUESDAY. THE EXACT TRACK OF THE SYSTEM IS
STILL UNCERTAIN AND IT IS TOO EARLY TO SPECULATE ON ACCUMULATIONS.
WHILE SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION IS LIKELY...IT WILL BE HIGHLY
DEPENDANT ON THE EXACT TRACK OF THE SYSTEM

If he wants to talk snowfall amounts, the Milwaukee weather service office already is tossing out potential snowfall amounts, but also mentions that it could shift.

I'll have forecast amounts on Sunday's 10 p.m. newscast. Until then, I'm not going to make any predictions on how much we'll get.

Wow.....this blog has taken a turn. But I gotta pipe up here and defend "Eric," not that he needs anyone to defend what he says, but if he says to "expect a few inches" and in his blog he mentioned "to have your shovels ready"....umm, doesn't a few inches of snow and shovels go hand-in-hand? I mean seriously Mr. Adam Sorenson, it's not WREX or Eric that's wanting or needing the attention, it seems like that's your agenda on their blog.....

Again, everyone have a nice sunny weekend!!! WOO HOO SUN!!

Just threatening to delete my comments because I ask for honesty? I work outdoors and our business depends on accurate forecasts. You must understand that many people depend on your profession and asking for honest, factual, forecasts is only reasonable.

If my comments offend, i apologize - so many of your bloggers angrily fire back at me; the WREX forecasters certainly have a group of devoted, albeit naive, fans in their corner. Hopefully though, my comments have allowed the WREX forecasters to reconsider their honesty, their accuracy and will put that consideration to good use in future forecasts.

And by the way, I've been spelling my name just fine for well over 30 years. Also, thanks for the phone number to your station, I'll make a note of it and keep it onhand.

Adam - but you just last night had, in your profile, the last name spelled "Sorensen," while your sign-in name was "Sorenson." I see now that the profile is changed to "Sorenson" as well. Something seems a bit amiss with that.

I do request that you explain where specifically you found that forecast of 0.5".

I have looked the hpc outlook and as of their 1am outlook we are in the 75 percent chance of seeing at least 4 inches and a 50 percent chance of seeing at least 8 inches and like eric says, that can change.
