Rain is a Gamble, Cooldown is a Safe Bet

A weak cool front is set to cross the Stateline Saturday night, while a bona fide cold front slams into the region on Tuesday. The initial front could spark a few sprinkles and an isolated shower, but I believe the majority of the weekend will stay dry. All outdoor activities look good to go from this point of view. The secondary front will give us several rain chances for the beginning of the next work week, but many of our models are bouncing back and forth on precipitation amounts. If I was a betting man, I would say that betting on rain Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday would be a bit of a gamble. On the other hand, you can go to the bank with below average temperatures moving in for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

This image is a look at temperatures approximately 4000-6000 feet above the ground for Tuesday. It displays an area of high pressure over the Dakotas with a strong low sitting over Ohio. In between these two systems will be a sharp pressure gradient that squeezes the atmosphere, causing the air passing through to speed up. Northerly winds could get cranking during this time, causing a cooldown the likes of which we haven't felt for awhile. If you haven't started to dig out the sweaters and sweatshirts from last spring, you may want to do so in the near future! -ADAM
