Extremely Windy

A deep area of low pressure is passing us to the north for the second half of this weekend. Around it is a strong pressure gradient causing some howling winds. A Wind Advisory (dark orange) has already been posted for Sunday which includes all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. A High Wind Watch (brownish tint) is running for a large section of Iowa, Minnesota, and the Dakotas. Even a Winter Weather Advisory (shade of pink) has been issued for northern Minnesota. Northwesterly winds behind this polar front will jump up to 20-30 mph during the first half of your Sunday. Winds during the afternoon could easily gust up to 40 mph.

I'm keeping snowflakes off of the forecast for Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if our radar scan picks up a few sprinkles or flurries high up in the clouds tomorrow. Although, the big factor that will prohibit this activity from reaching the ground is that the lower levels of the atmosphere are going to be very dry. Even if a few of the thicker clouds produce a few flakes, it is going to be tough for this minuscule amount of precipitation to hold together long enough to reach your backyard. -ADAM
