Wonderful Weekend Ahead!
Earlier in the week Eric and Justin researched how often we hit 80° in October and they found out it typically happens twice. We have yet to reach that mark so far this month, but we could be getting very close this weekend. After a warm front passes through Friday night, southerly winds will kick in a summer-like airmass that will send our high temperatures roughly 10-15 degrees above average. The wet weather this weekend should stay put well west of the Mississippi River, but by Monday afternoon the warm air will get pushed aside as thunderstorms rumble into the region. -ADAM

Greetings,
Every year at this time of the year I begin my annual "furnace challenge" -- my goal (every year) is to avoid turning on the furnace before November 1.
Some years I make it and some years I don't, but I always give it a good shot. Among other things, it reminds me every year how to make the best possible use of solar warming and how to avoid letting the cooler air in and the warmer air out as much as possible. Its always a good "warm-up" practice (so to speak!) for the coming winter season during which I try to conserve heat as much as posssible.
Anyway, it is weekends like this coming one (relatively warm with plenty of sunshine) that make this "challenge" more doable.
Sunny days are premium days ... to "collect" as much indoor warmth as possible, and when the air temp is warm too, it is a double bonus.
I can tell our bout of indian summer is here. The asian beetles are out in full force now getting in our doors and everything.
