The top of the graphic to the left reads "December to Remember", but I'm sure a few folks wouldn't mind forgetting the wild weather of this past month. We nearly tripled the amount of snow we usually shovel during the last month of the year. We almost doubled the total liquid precipitation that we typically collect. On top of all that, any break in the stormy weather was filled with an arctic outbreak. Temperatures were below normal 22 out of 31 days (71%) with today being counted on the cold side of that statistic.
Happy New Year to you all, and let's hope the weather in January isn't quite as extreme. -ADAM

Y'know, weather-wise, I'd say that all of 2008 was a year I'd just as soon forget. It was pretty much last January (following the freak January tornados) when the weather seemed to transform from a normal "hard" winter into Really Downright Vicious. Remember snow after snow after snow last winter? Then there was the spring flooding that caused terrible damage (at least in WI) and seemed like it would never end. Summer was a bit of a respite since cool weather in summer doesn't seem onerous, but it still hit the record books (remember, the first 90 degree day was Sept 1?). Then we took a weather break as we all watched our 401(k)s become inundated by a financial tsunami. And then this Winter came slamming in, almost as though last Winter never really ended.
I really hope Mother Nature gets over Her attack of PMS (or whatever) and comes on with a kinder, gentler 2009!
Yep I agree. After the january tornado, the winter did turn pretty bad. The only major thing that stuck out to me was the february 6th snowstorm when most places had over a foot and a half of snow (except the airport which only recorded 10 inches). This summer I think was pretty active. We had a fair share of severe weather although most of it seemed to skip around rockford. Then we had the june flooding in martin park which was unreal. I remember driving down to the street that borders martin park and the flooding was up past the ball diamond. We will see what 2009 has in store. Based on adam and erics forecast, sounds like we might have another major storm next week.
Uh oh... how much ice could we get saturday?
