Storms are developing Friday night in southern Iowa and northern Missouri. These should be in the Rockford area by daybreak. Severe weather is not anticipated at this time, but we will be sure to watch the radars.

Yay! Could it possibly be my two favorite types of weather in one weekend? Storms and snow.
I just drove down from Madison to Beloit at 10 p.m. or so and it is very foggy.
Visibility would be measured in feet or yards (maybe 20-30 yards much of the way), not miles.
The thing that was utterly amazing was the number of cars passing me going 65 mph on the Interstate when you couldn't even see 2 car-lengths ahead. (*shakes head*)
I've just returned from a trip to the gas station and the fog was rediculous. I drive a full size truck so I'm a bit higher up than a car, but I also had my fog lights on and still couldn't see a thing. It seemed to me that visibility was only about 50 yards, and that's at a stop.
The storms to the south east are really looking nasty. I saw that the NWS extended the Tornado watch into central IL, and a warning for Pike, and Adams counties in IL. It's amazing how potent this system is for late December, but then again we had a Tornado in January last year, so maybe this is the new norm.
according to a radio station in chicago, we are under a risk for tornadoes today, is that true?
The National Weather service in thier advisory stated that there is an isolated chance although slight risk.
Just tried to drive, visibility is very limited in many areas. I had to turn around and go home. Hopefully it lifts

I am very amazed of how much snow has actually melted. This time yesterday our front yard had over knee deep snow, today you can see bare ground. For a snow lover like me, this weather is very disappointing. Hopefully down the line we will get a big snowstorm to replace this snow.
Rockford is just outside the slight risk of severe weather today. I would be surprised if anybody in our viewing area - except MAYBE Lee County, is put under a watch or warning. The biggest threat today will be flooding with the rain, snowmelt, and frozen ground.
Hey justin, I have noticed back by cedar rapids some pink on the radar, is there any chance of that getting here, or will ours be just be rain changing to snow before ending. I sure hope we get more snows in the future. I don't like this mild weather in december. Of course earlier this year it was 60 degrees when poplar grove had the tornado, then one month later we had over 18 inches of snow.

With all the storm activity going on, I did hear a rumble of thunder here a few minutes ago. Ill bet the 169 people who voted they love snow are very disappointed in this weather since the deep snow cover has literally disappeared.
Dekalb had or still has a watch. I heard a little thunder. I have been looking at these storms since last night.
