Water With Nowhere To Go

A little sleet and freezing rain fell overnight, which created a thin glaze of ice this morning on the roads. Something to keep in mind as you head out this morning. With our temperatures already above the freezing mark, the icy situation will minimize rapidly.

Right now we've got at least a foot of snow laying on top of frozen ground. A moisture rich system could drop between 1-3" of rain on the portion of Illinois circled in yellow. This much liquid precipitation would have nowhere to go. With temperatures well above the freezing mark for both Friday and Saturday this white paradise will start to melt away. Due to the combination of all of this water sitting around and causing trouble for homeowners and travelers, a FLASH FLOOD WATCH has been issued for all of the counties shaded in green. This watch will start tonight and run through tomorrow. -ADAM

Adam, do you think there will be still be snow left after tonights and tomorrows possible heavy rain event, or will most of it be gone by then. Somehow I have a feeling if most of this melts away, the pattern will change to where we get another 10 inches of snow to replace this.

Dear Mother Nature,

Although we requested that You remove some of Your snow from our roadways and sidewalks, we did not envision that You would remove it by causing a Flood.

This blatant lack of good faith collaboration has gone far enough.

We wish to speak with Your Supervisor.

Sincerely,
The Midwest

Pretty dense fog up by Madison, WI at 1:30 Friday afternoon. Visibility only about 1/4 to 1/2 mi. If you're heading up north for the weekend, drive carefully!

Well it looks like 13 weather authority december outlook was right on the money. I just went back and looked at the outlook and it did say the cold would continue this month and it did with more snow systems and it did say that mid month we would have a major cold wave and we did. And it said that going into january we would see some moderation and look what is happening. Thats why 13 weather authority is the most accurate in town. I hope we do get more big snows though since it is winter.

Well I was out and about from about 6:30 til just about 15 minutes ago and the visibility is absolutely horrible. Many area you can barely see the road ahead of you. And there is alot of flooding along the roadways now with the melting snow. I can tell at my house the snow is starting to go down big time. If you must go out, be very very careful.

I was traveling to KC tonight and got to Walcott IA and had vehicle issues and EXTREME fog. Very windy here too. What's it looking like to travel to KC tomorrow?
