Tuesday Morning Rush
The road report this morning is actually fairly good. I expect most schools to stay in session today. The Blizzard Warning for all of northern Illinois has already been dropped. After driving into work through urban areas and rural areas, the roads are quite manageable. The freezing drizzle we got last night has helped out significantly. It created a casing around the powdery snow we picked up yesterday. That casing has kept the majority of the snow on the ground. Visibilities as of 4am are above 4 miles in all reporting locations across the Stateline viewing area. Wind speeds are currently sustained between 15 and 25 mph with a few gusts near 30 mph. I-39/90 in WI was slow but manageable.
Hint: if you're heading north and the road in front of you doen't seem to have an icy glare, take a glance in the rear view mirror. Depending on the angle of the sun, sometimes its easier to see that so-called "black ice" behind you than it is to see it in front of you.
Guilford Road east of Mulford was a sheet of ice this morning.
