We made it!

Let it be known that on this day... Saturday, January 31, 2009... the Chicago-Rockford International Airport recorded a temperature of 41°!

This is our first time of reaching the freezing mark since January 4 (27 days) and our first time of reaching 40° since December 29 (33 days).

Yup, it was nice and warm out today.

Put a little calcium chloride on the snow and ice that's been packed solid on my sidewalk since early January, to encourage it to melt during this mini-warm spell. Worked like a charm; scraped most of that packed ice away this afternoon.

It actually almost felt like Spring in the air out there today.

Justin,

I couldnt get the photo to upload, but what is that bright light directly below the moon? It has been there for the last week or so.

According to spaceweather.com, it's our sister planet, Venus. The configuration you've been seeing has apparently gotten a lot of attention as of late... and on February 27, the Moon and Venus will appear even closer to each other.

I have a feeling by this time next weekend, we have alot of bare ground showing with the snowmelt happening. But I still think after this warmup, we are going to get another major snowstorm before this spring comes.
