8:23pm - Galena [Jo Daviess Co, IL] co-op observer reports SNOW of M0.8 INCH at 08:17 PM CST -- still snowing lightly.
8:22pm - Doppler radar continues to show a band of heavy snowfall that will move into the Rockford metro shortly after 9pm. Spotter reports confirm up to 2 inches of accumulation with this band. Visibilities will also be reduced to near zero for those travelling.8:15pm - [Dubuque Co, IA] trained spotter reports SNOW of M1.8 INCH at 08:12 PM CST -- light snow still falling.
7:16pm - NWS Quad Cities: Spotter in Pearl City in Stephenson County /west of Freeport/ reports the light rain changed to snow prior to 7 pm and some decent flakes attim with grassy/elevated surfaces starting to whiten up
6:44pm - NWS Milwaukee: Recent snow reports as of 630 pm. Baraboo/Dells 1.4 inches...Westfield in Marquette County a trace...Markesan in Green Lake 2 inches...Rio in Columbia County 1/4 inch. Waunakee in Dane County 1 inch.
6:17pm - Heaviest snow extending from Galena through Darlington into Madison. Visibilities will diminish along the US20 corridor from Stockton to Freeport by 7:30pm.6:14PM - 2.3 inches in Cedar Rapids at KGAN-TV Studios
5:49pm - 1.5 inches in Cedar Rapids at KGAN-TV Studios

99% rain with an occasional snow flake. There is a stiff wind, though, making it just plain nasty out there.
I just saw a newspaper carrier pedaling his bicycle against the wind with his coat up over his head looking utterly cold and miserable.
Note to self: Give newspaper carrier a decent tip this holiday.

I am a HAM Radio operator and i have been contacting several HAMS in the Cedar Rapids IA area, they all have stated that all they had was 1/2 of snow on the ground and it was melting fast.
I am not calling the TV stations in the area truth stretchers by any means, but it does seam like there measurements are tad bit high. Has the NWS confirmed this? Just curious. Happy Thanksgiving to all and a safe weekend.!!
It's like a blizzard here right now. Lots of snow and wicked wind. It's showing great accumulation, the grass, my deck, and the road are all covered with more than just a dusting. Awesome!
The band of heavy snow is now pushing into Freeport. Winds there are gusting above 30 so this will definitely be reducing visibilities. Watch for the heavy snow to progress up IL75 into South Beloit by 10pm. 1-3" is expected with this band.

I took a measurement in 3 different areas including the street and all are at barely a hair under 2 centimeters.
