6:20pm - Winter Storm Watches in effect from Milwaukee all the way down near Tucson! This storm will affect millions of people this weekend.

3:40pm - Chicago and Davenport will be issuing Winter Storm Watches for the entire area within the next 30 minutes. This storm is expected to bring the worst weather to the area on Saturday with a round of snow changing to freezing rain and then to rain. Additional details will follow...

2:10pm - The National Weather Service in Milwaukee has put out a Winter Storm Watch. Snow will begin to overspread the area during the morning hours of Saturday. hey eric. is that kind of setup look like it might happen here, or does it look more of a bit of snow, then freezing rain. and do u think the NWS will issue a watch for us.

The chance is there. Still analyzing things. I have a hunch that WSWatches will come out with the zone forecasts this afternoon from DVN (Davenport) and LOT (Chicago).

I have that hunch too. I know the NWS in chicago usually waits til around 330 or so before issuing those kind of things with their afternoon packages. I wouldn't be surprised if they do. If we do get freezing rain on saturday, I hope it happens after 2pm. That is when I get off work and can be off the roads. I have to give you and adam credit, people rely on two to keep us up to date, and you two rock updating this blog. And gretchen gets credit too.

Well that answers my question. They are going to issue a WSW for us for sat afternoon and evening because of the threat of freezing rain. They just put out the afternoon discussion. If this does occur, I hope it is after 2pm so I can get home off the roads. Imagine if this storm decides to go further south.

All I can say is, with all due respect to those who are working this weekend, better that this happen on a weekend than a weekday.

It is true that some people do have to work on weekends (and I hope they all stay safe!) but more people, including school buses carrying school children, etc., have the option to stay home on a weekend than on a weekday, and if this yukky storm comes to pass, let's hope they do!

I see it being 2' to 4' inches of snow with some sleet and ice precip. Not alot of snow im sorry to say.

Justin said...

Lets say for some odd reason, all of this precip. fell in the form of snow. How much would it be?

Tyler said...

but in my mind it's saying 3' inches to 6' inches with some ice precip.trying to make it a some what more snow event.

Tyler said...

Well I would say anywhere from 5' to 10' inches IF it was all snow.

hi eric I was going over some stuff and I realized that your 7 day forcast has us in more snow than rain. It seems that IT'S GOING TO BE RAINY ON SUNDAY and end with light snow, but you dont show much of rain on Sunday.

GO BEARS!
-if it is going to snow on sunday that would be great for the bears game!

brycemh said...

even if there is rain on sunday wouldn't the snow melt anyway?

brycemh said...

i bet we only get 1-3 inches

Tyler said...

it might just rain during the bears game hope the bears win there season is on the line.

I am downplaying the snow potential for the onset as I believe the FZRA will be the main hurdle. 1-2" seems possible along and south of US20 with 2-4" possible for Southern Wisconsin. Snow will changeover to FZRA and then RA between Saturday 4pm and 11pm.

As for the snow on Sunday, there is one model that is giving us around 3" of additional (backside) accumulation. Other models give us a dusting to an inch.

As far as the rain early Sunday melting the aforementioned snow: It all depends on how much snow initially falls. That's the toughest thing to forecast at this point. -ES

Hey eric have you looked at Henry's blog on accuweather? He has a snowfall map up that doesn't look like the GFS too much at all. Just wondering what you think of that.

I've gaven him a thought on that to.

Really "cool" stuff Eric. I am from Alabama and we have been in a snow "drought" for several years.
