Almost in the clear

I thought I'd start off by showing the river forecasts. Most locations on the Rock are or will soon be experiencing moderate flooding, while most of our river communities will have no flooding to minor flooding. We go through moderate flooding every few years, so I'm sure most people are accustomed to dealing with the high water. Just remember to never walk into floodwater or drive across it... and use common sense, such as moving electrical equipment to a higher place if water is going to affect your home. Rivers will crest within the next couple days. Big thanks to the folks at the National Weather Service for their river forecasts.

I also should thank the Chicago NWS office for an informative media seminar today. There was a review of the February 6 snowstorm and the January tornado, along with discussions on some changes coming down the pike (such as Super Resolution radar data).

All right, back to the weather at hand. Unlike last weekend, I was happy to be inside so far this weekend. This week, though, I'm sure everybody will be making their evening plans involve being outdoors. The low that's been drifting across the Midwest - it's cut off from the main flow - will finally go away. As high pressure builds in from the west, a big ol' ridge will set up shop, bringing back southerly winds. That, along with a good deal of sunshine, will send our temperatures back into the 60s!

Let's cross our fingers that the scattered flurries tonight will be the last ones we see for several months.
