Eastern Iowa Tornadoes

Sixteen tornadoes touched down across the Midwest tonight. Thankfully they stayed to our west and luckily for Iowans no injuries or fatalities occurred. Stormchasers caught this rope tornado near Wellman, Iowa. A major wedge tornado touched down near South English. Amazing pictures (courtesy of KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids).

Our severe weather threat will be fairly minimal during the overnight. However a few thunderstorms may still form as temperatures remain around 60 degrees through morning. Don't let the morning temperatures fool you....we'll fall into the 40s during Friday afternoon.

Since our tempurature is above 60 here in Dixon, is there a better chance for us to experience severe weather tonight?

We'll all be around 60 by morning. The Storm Prediction Center has taken all of us out of the Severe-Slight Risk. -ERIC

Based on the radars, it looks like the storms are trying to hold their own and moving ever so closer to rockford and loves park. I will report and updated total for the rain if it starts before midnight. But if it hasn't I will try to get out and empty my gauge at midnight for the new reading.

The first band of rain just came thru loves park, just very brief heavy rain and a few flashes of lightning and thunder, but nothing major.
