Storm Prediction Center has issued a discussion regarding the storms in eastern Iowa. There is the possibility that the northern half of the Severe Thunderstorm Watch may become a Tornado Watch. I fully expect this to occur, especially with the development in our area.
3:22 p.m.
Cells are beginning to develop from Sterling northeast to Kenosha, WI. Conditions are favorable for these to continue developing and produce severe weather. The potential also exists for isolated tornadoes.
We are also watching a line of thunderstorms in eastern Iowa that have a history of producing wall clouds.
Stay here and on-air with WREX as this potential severe weather situation unfolds.

Are we going to get anything else after this line moves through?
Currently we have some small pea sized hail falling with the short rain bursts. Not a lot, but I see it bouncing off the driveway. I'm near I39/Bypass 20. I'll see if i can get a pic
i stepped outside, and the rain stopped and just random hail pellets are came to the ground. its kinda humorous in a way, as a pellet would hit the sidewalk and then three seconds later i hear one hit off a truck on the side of the road, and then one hit me. lol
we got some pretty good sized hail here. i live on 20th street between broadway and harrison in rockford.
Well, I just experienced an amazing sight, although it felt that my stomach was about to drop, as well as the many other 'gasps' from others that I heard.
I was waiting at the exit of Menards in Cherry Valley with a bunch of others because it was raining so hard at about 7:15p. It was so dark, like nighttime, and the lot lights weren't on yet (it was too early). Then a nasty jagged bolt of lightning came down to the ground, and thunder was so loud it shook the building, and then the area lit up a very very bright orange and blue... like fireworks going off, for about five seconds. it was so bright it was hard to look at, and sparks were flying everywhere. What a sight. Everyone around was talking about it and couldn't believe what they saw.
Then it stopped. Three minutes later two firetrucks and two police cars came on the scene to check it out. It was a transformer that got hit. No other damage was done, and it was lucky that the restaurants survived damage. How scary. I did notice an owner of a SUV inside of his vehicle trying to figure out how to shut off his alarm because it was going bananas from the extreme shaking of the thunder.
So basically the TB and the DQ is out of power, as well as the intersections of the Mall/Menards/Perryville and Charles/Perryville traffic lights.
On my way home going over bypass 20 on Mulford I noticed four emergency vehicles below just east of the bridge. There was a car in the median... I wonder what happened there. The car seemed to be flipped over or something.
Talk about adrenaline pumping in that time. Geesh! Thought I'd share.
I know alot of people told me about the hail today, but I unfortunately had to work 1030-7 so I was unable to see any hail. I had to drive thru the rain this morning around 10 and I tell you, I could barely see the loves park sign on the water tower. It looked like dense fog. Then I was waiting around 655pm for rain to let up so I could leave work and our power went out briefly and there was huge green flash that literally about came in walmart, then power came on and then went back off for about 5 seconds then came back on. When I left the store, I headed east and ran right into the torrent and when I first pulled out of the parking lot, there is a hill on riverside by walmart and I saw a huge bolt come down on the horizon and transformer blow just to left of the flash. Needless to say, a scary but good scene. Flooding was bad all the way down riverside.
