A carbon copy of last weekend would have been nice. Can you imagine two great weekends in a row? Not surprisingly, that would be too much to ask for. Instead, we got stuck with a dreary couple of days.In case you're wondering (and I'm sure you are!), last weekend's highs were more typical of the beginning of May. The highs this past weekend are what we'd tend to see at the beginning of March. So, in one week's time, our weather has swung through nearly two months of temperature normals! The good news is that the pendulum is swinging back to the warm side of things in the upcoming week.

I've been waiting for a 70 to pop up on the 7-day. And that got me to thinking, how many times have we gone the entire month of April without a 70 degree temp? I know we still have some time, but it just reminded me of not reaching 60 in march.
I'll do some digging. The Chicago NWS conveniently has a piece of info on their website that states, for Rockford...
Average date of the first 70: April 2
Latest date of first 70: May 6, 1961
Average date of first 80...April 23
Latest date of first 80...June 1, 1973
Okay, here's what I've come up with for the month of April. I only have included years in which 70+ was reached two times or fewer in the month.
1907: Hit 70 once
1911: Hit 70 once
1920: Hit 75, 73
1944: Hit 73, 70
1961: Never hit 70
1965: Hit 72, 73
1966: Hit 70 once
1973: Hit 79, 73
1982: Hit 72, 74
1995: Hit 73 once
1997: Hit 73, 75
And looking at 80 degrees... since 2001, the latest date of the first 80 degree high was April 13 (today's date).
Thanks for digging for that info. Lets just hope we don't have a 1961.
More trivia... this will be the latest first 70 since 1993.
Actually justin, remember we did hit 60 in march, i think that last day of march. Unless I am wrong. But I remember eric ragging on adam about that.
