Friday: A few showers are possible south and west of Winnebago County. Any showers that do form should be quite light and won't pack much of a punch. If you are headed out along or east of Interstate 39 you should have no problems.
Saturday: Some severe weather will be developing during the afternoon in portions of the Dakotas and far western Minnesota & Iowa, but around here look for stress free driving conditions.
Sunday: The big stable airmass under high pressure will eventually slip to the east allowing for some unsettled weather conditions. The best chance for thunderstorms lies over Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, but a few storms could trickle into northern Illinois. Some of the stronger cells could become severe.
Memorial Day: For the travelers that are returning to the Rockford area, you may be driving into some rough weather. This will be the highest likelihood for the Stateline to run into some stormy conditions. The severe weather risk will be elevated due to increasing dew points and high temperatures well above normal.
Remember to drive carefully and courteously! Don't let those gas prices ruin your fun this weekend! -ADAM
