Rumbling by the End of the Weekend

The map to the left illustrates the Storm Prediction Center's slight risk area for Sunday. The greatest threat on that day will be over the midsection of Iowa. Some isolated activity is possible during the daytime hours on Sunday, but I would expect the majority of the day to be dry. A large cluster of storms could easily ignite Sunday night and turn into an MCS (Mesoscale Convective System). This overnight scenario would not produce tornadic activity, but rather gusty winds and some small hail.

The image to the right is the convective outlook by the SPC for Memorial Day. In this circled region there will be plenty of lift in the atmosphere to produce thunderstorms. From this morning's model runs, I would say our wettest timeframe this weekend is setting up to be Sunday night through the daytime hours Monday. If you are flexible with the timing of your outdoor plans this weekend, I would say the sooner you schedule that backyard get together the better off you will be. -ADAM
