We often talk about the circulation around high pressure and how, when it's to our east, we get a nice southerly flow. There is another role that high pressure plays. Adam talked about it a couple weeks back, but I thought I'd bring it up again.High pressure is exactly what it says it is. It's a region of air that is more dense than the surrounding air - that is, a region of higher pressure. High pressure generally prevents many clouds from forming because of its sinking motion. Most clouds occur from rising motion, so if something is preventing the air from going up, clouds aren't going to form.
This is just what we'll be having on Sunday. A high will be passing by, keeping our skies quite clear and switching our winds to a more southerly direction.
I also keep watching that video that Eric posted below. It's hilarious!
