The Storm Prediction Center is continuing to stay ahead of the storm complex over western Iowa and Nebraska. A new weather watch will be issued for Central Iowa by 9pm. This is an indication that these storms are likely to stay together as they work east down I-80. Storms could near the Mississippi River by 2am. Could we have a derecho event with these storms come tomorrow morning or afternoon?
perhaps. watching the convection in iowa closely.
Actually isnt that what happened with the july 5th 2003 event. Started as a complex in Iowa then turned into a bow echo or derecho that gave us our 100 mph wind gusts.
We're heading into the season of late-night storm complexes moving in from Iowa.
I think that is what happened last year on august 7th when we had the 5-7 inches of rain overnight. I think there was a complex that was in iowa and it just followed a front and I watched the weather channel and a band of heavy rain and storms set up right over rockford and loves park. And at one point around 1 am, it rained harder than I had ever seen it rain. Needless to say I only got about 40 minutes of sleep. Leaving work at 11 and going back in at 7 and having those storms were not a good combo.
