5:18 pm: Personal thought on the technical discussion regarding a severe t'storm watch possibility for northern Illinois... I'm not seeing any reason for the northern tier of Illinois counties to be under one. The storms to our north and south will not impact us, nor will the rain moving through now become any type of severe storm. It's just that steady "blah" type of rain.

That southern cell will remain to our south, but it's exactly what those towns over there don't need.

I feel bad for those people. I'll keep them in my prayers.

Do you think a watch will be issued for the Rockford area or are we under less threat?

The activity that's developed looks like it will stay on either side of Rockford. We'll see if anything new develops.

These storms are largely driven by the heat of the sun, so as the evening wears on, they'll start to diminish before some more sprout overnight. The nighttime ones will occur because of the low-level jet stream kicking in.
