A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Chino Hills, California Tuesday afternoon. Minor damage has been reported. No immediate word on injuries. Luckily Chino Hills is a suburban area with newer buildings and foundations.For more information, check out the U.S. Geological Survey.

Hmm, I was living in So. California at the time of the Whittier quake (5.9 on the Richter scale) in 1987. I remember it well. It happened right before 8 a.m. and I had just gotten out of the shower & was putting on my sock. Strangely enough, when I went to put on my sock, I missed my foot. I thought, "That's really wierd. How did I miss my foot?" It was only then that I realized that the whole house was rocking and shaking, and our cats were dashing up and down the hallway like crazed lemmings.
It is most inconvenient to have an earthquake happen just as one is getting out of the shower. It makes it a tad hard to follow the usual advice to go stand in the front doorway.
Anyway - the point being ... we were located a good several dozen miles away from the epicenter of that quake - but it still caused plenty of shakin' rockin' & rollin'.
Wierd stuff that you don't think about happens, like - the open milk cartons in the refrigerator tipped over & there was spilled milk all over the bottom of the fridge.
