What a Difference a Year Makes

Do you remember the weather during August of 2007? How could you forget it? It was a wild month that featured massive flooding across northern Illinois. An incredible 11.38" of rain fell in the first twenty days of the month. The pace slowed a bit over the last 1/3 of the month, but we still broke the record for the wettest month of all time. Almost 14" of liquid was picked up at the Rockford International Airport during August of 2007. To go with the intense rainfall was the heat and humidity as well. There were 7 days of with high temperatures in the 90s.

August of 2008 has been completely different. Through the first twenty days of the month we have only received 1.61" of rain. That puts us about an inch below normal for the first 2/3 of August. Not only have we not hit 90° in August, but it has been well publicized that we have yet to reach 90° yet this year.

The mild and dry weather pattern continues today, but it appears as though we will transition into more of an active setup late in the work week. The severe weather potential is low Thursday through Saturday, but some significant rainfall could be recorded during these three days. -ADAM
