24 Hour Precipitation Estimates

The three graphics that you see posted are 24 hour precipitation estimates for the next three days. The measurable rainfall in Rockford likely won't start until this evening. Before then just beware of some drizzle and brief showers. The heavy rain gets going late this evening (first image) and continues into your Saturday (second image). Precipitation totals in northern Illinois could approach the 1-3" mark by Saturday night. Due to this the Quad Cities branch of the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, and Whiteside County. The Chicago branch is waiting until this afternoon to decide whether or not to post any advisories. Overall, I would say Saturday looks like an excellent opportunity to head to the movie theater with some soaking rains on tap.

Portions of Illinois are still going to get hit hard on Sunday (third image), but the heaviest rain should be well downstate. The remnants of Ike could reach cities such as Dixon, Rochelle, and DeKalb along Interstate 88. Eric convinced me to keep the forecast dry for Sunday in Rockford. Hopefully we can squeeze out some sunshine and salvage at least half of this weekend. -ADAM

P.S. For you weather gurus who have felt incomplete recently without our live chat, Eric and Justin will fire it up this evening. They will be talking about Hurricane Ike, which should make landfall near Houston, Texas early Saturday morning.
