Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn has launched an online petition drive in an attempt to keep eleven state parks open that Governor Blagojevich has slated to close this November.
Lowden State Park and Castle Rock State Park, both near Oregon, Illinois will be closed in November unless something is done to stop these plans. If you would like to participate in this petition, please click here.
I must say that WREX-TV does not endorse either side of this debate. However I felt it was in our best interest to allow you the opportunity to make your feelings about this issue known. What do you think about the possible loss of our two state parks?

First Eric I want to thank you for providing the link to this petition. I as a resident of Dixon being a nearby town of Oregon am absolutely disgusted with our represenatives, senators and Govenor at the moment. I personally think there is way to much bickering and to much of the blame game..so much so that it seems that nothing is getting accomplished (especially the budget). Because of all of the non-sense, we are paying the price tag with the closing of our state parks and the disruption to some of our state run agencies. I for one hope the special session will help keep the state parks open and keep funding our state run agencies. The closings would most definitely hurt our local economy which is already suffering. The gridlock downstate needs to stop. Thanks again Eric.
